Athletics activate OF Ryan Sweeney
Aug 28, 2008 - 11:52 PM OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Oakland Athletics on Thursday activated outfielder Ryan Sweeney from the 15-day disabled list.Sweeney had been sidelined since August 13 with a sprained right thumb. The 23-year-old, who also spent time on the DL from May 29-June 12 with a toe injury, is hitting .287 with four home runs and 37 RBI in 88 games this season.
To make room on the roster, Oakland optioned outfielder Carlos Gonzalez to Class AAA Sacramento.
The key player acquired by the Athletics in the offseason deal that sent Dan Haren to the Arizona Diamondbacks, the 22-year-old Gonzalez batted .240 with four homers and 23 RBI in 77 games after being recalled on May 30.
