Angels place 2B Kendrick on DL

Aug 29, 2008 - 1:24 AM ANAHEIM (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim took another hit to their ailing infield on Thursday, placing second baseman Howie Kendrick on the 15-day disabled list with tightness in his left hamstring.

Kendrick joins infielder Maicer Izturis, who is out for the season with a torn ligament in his left thumb, on the DL.

Third baseman Chone Figgins and shortstop Erick Aybar are also nicked up, with toe and hamstring injuries, respectively.

Kendrick, who suffered the injury running the bases on Wednesday, was out for six weeks after injuring the same hamstring in April.

He is batting .308 with three homers and 37 RBI in 86 games. Kendrick, 25, has never played more than 88 games in his three major league seasons.

To take his spot on the roster, the Angels recalled third baseman Brandon Wood from Class AAA Salt Lake. Wood, 22, is batting .296 with 31 homers and 84 RBI in 103 games for the Bees.

Wood hit .125 with one homer in a 29-game stint with Anaheim earlier in the season.
