Season likely over for Dodgers OF Jones

Sep 4, 2008 - 12:13 PM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andruw Jones' injured left knee will likely keep him out for the remainder of the season.

Jones told the Los Angeles Times that his season is "basically over," in an article printed Thursday.

Jones, who is batting .161 with three home runs and 14 RBI this season, went on the 15-day disabled list August 12 with patella tendinitis his left knee and was activated Monday when teams were allowed to expand their active rosters to 40 players. However, he doesn't expect to play the rest of the campaign after injuring his surgically repaired knee during a rehab stint with Class AAA Las Vegas.

"If the team needed me and I was the only one who could be out there, I would wrap it up and play," Jones told the Times. "In this situation, we have other guys who have been getting the job done. I'll try not to be in their way."

The 31-year-old, who signed a two-year, $36.2 million contract with the Dodgers in the offseason, has scaled back his workouts due to swelling in the knee. Jones likely wouldn't break into the lineup even if healthy with Manny Ramirez, Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier locking down the outfield positions.
