Angels CF Hunter leaves game

Sep 10, 2008 - 6:37 AM ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim center fielder Torii Hunter left Tuesday's game with the New York Yankees in the sixth inning with tightness in his left quadriceps.

The injury came one day after Hunter was one of the central figures in a benches-clearing brawl, when he pushed Yankees catcher Ivan Rodriguez in the back.

He didn't seem to be affected by either incident.

"I feel fine. There was just no reason to go out with the chance of hurting myself more," Hunter said. "I want to be ready to play as soon as I can and to be ready for the postseason. We have a chance to get one step closer (Wednesday) to the postseason and just hope we can win the game."

Hunter was replaced by Gary Matthews Jr.
