Reds 2B Phillips out for season

Sep 10, 2008 - 11:46 AM MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips will miss the remainder of the season due to a broken right index finger.

Phillips suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch while attempting a bunt in the 11th inning against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday. He stayed in the game and delivered the go-ahead RBI single later in the at-bat, lifting the Reds to a 5-4 victory.

The team announced after the game that Phillips will be examined in Cincinnati on Wednesday and will be out for the rest of 2008.

Phillips, 27, posted a .261 batting average with 21 home runs and 78 RBI in 141 games this campaign.
