Blue Jays RHP Marcum done for season

Sep 19, 2008 - 1:06 AM TORONTO (Ticker) -- Toronto Blue Jays righthander Shaun Marcum will not pitch again this season and could miss the start of the 2009 campaign, pending the results of an MRI he underwent Thursday.

Marcum left Tuesday's start against the Baltimore Orioles after just two innings due to "numbness" in his right forearm.

The Blue Jays would not reveal the results of Thursday's MRI and have sent the tests to Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion.

"Anytime that you go and have that sort of test, there's always the fear of something being wrong," Toronto manager Cito Gaston said. "With the way he had to leave the game - the numbness in his fingers and his elbow - there's always a fear of that.

"I'm just hoping that it's not as bad as we're all thinking it might be."

Marcum went 9-7 with a 3.39 ERA for the Blue Jays this season.
