Yankees SS Jeter to sit out vs. Blue Jays
Sep 23, 2008 - 10:48 PM TORONTO (Ticker) -- Thanks to a left hand injury, New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter will not be in the lineup for Tuesday's opener of a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays.Jeter was taken out of Saturday's 1-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the ninth inning after getting hit on the hand by a pitch from Jim Miller but played in Sunday's home finale at Yankee Stadium. He was a central figure in the celebration, giving a postgame speech and leading his teammates on a lap around the field to thank the fans.
The captain and face of the franchise, Jeter passed Lou Gehrig last week as the team's all-time hits leader at their 85-year-old ballpark.
