Cubs RF DeRosa strains calf
Sep 25, 2008 - 5:05 AM FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- Chicago Cubs right fielder Mark DeRosa is considered day-to-day after he left Wednesday's 9-6 win over the New York Mets with a strained calf.DeRosa homered in the second and departed for a pinch runner after ripping a two-run double in the fifth inning. Kosuke Fukudome ran for DeRosa and assumed his position the next half inning.
DeRosa will sit out Thursday's series finale. The Cubs have already wrapped up home-field advantage throughout the playoffs and have begun resting starters.
"It was a mild strain. It's not something to worry about," said DeRosa, who is hitting .285 with 21 home runs and 87 RBI in 149 games for the National League Central champions. "I was supposed to get tomorrow off anyway, but I hoped it would be under different circumstances."
