Diamondbacks 3B Reynolds sets strikeout record

Sep 25, 2008 - 7:03 PM ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Mark Reynolds set a major league record Thursday with his 200th strikeout of the season.

Reynolds went down swinging in his first at-bat in the second inning of the Diamondbacks' game against the St. Louis Cardinals. He broke the previous mark established by Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard last year.

In his second major league season, Reynolds fanned 129 times in 111 games for the Diamondbacks last season.

Howard also is on his way to 200 strikeouts as he enters the final weekend of the season with 196.
