Mets would host Astros in playoff game
Sep 25, 2008 - 10:35 PM In the unlikely event the Houston Astros finished tied with the New York Mets in the National League wild card race, a one-game playoff would take place at Shea Stadium. The Mets won a coin toss conducted by Major League Baseball on Thursday to host the potential tiebreaking game.
However, the Astros (83-74) barely are alive for playoff contention, trailing the Mets (87-71) and Milwaukee Brewers (87-71) by 3 1/2 games in the wild card race with only five to play.
If Houston is not eliminated by the close of the regular season on Sunday, it would host the Chicago Cubs on Monday to make up a game previously postponed by Hurricane Ike.
No one has shouted yet.
