Rays 1B Pena leaves game with blurry vision
Oct 2, 2008 - 7:44 PM ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) -- Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Carlos Pena left Game One of the American League Division Series against the Chicago White Sox after two innings Thursday due to blurry vision in his eye.Pena struck out in his only at-bat in the bottom of the first, then played the field in the second before leaving the game. He was replaced by Willy Aybar.
Rays manager Joe Maddon said on the game broadcast that Pena had recently scratched his eye in home accident. Maddon said he removed Pena from the game as a precaution.
Pena led the Rays, who are in the postseason for the first time in their 11-year history, in homers (31) and RBI (102) this season.
