Astros remove RHP Borkowski, INF Castillo from 40-man roster
Oct 8, 2008 - 11:21 PM HOUSTON (Ticker) -- The Houston Astros removed righthander Dave Borkowski and infielder Jose Castillo from their 40-man roster on Wednesday, sending them outright to Class AAA Round Rock.Borkowski, 32, was 0-2 with a 7.50 ERA in 26 relief appearances last season, while Castillo hit .281 (9-for-32) and drove in two runs in 15 games for the Astros after being released from the San Francisco Giants. The 27-year-old batted .246 with six home runs and 37 RBI in 127 combined games with the Astros and Giants.
In corresponding moves, Houston also sent outright righthanders Jack Cassel and Ryan Houston to Round Rock.
The 28-year-old Cassel was 1-1 with a 5.64 ERA in nine games - three starts - for the Astros last season. The 29-year-old Houston went 1-3 with one save and a 7.54 ERA in 39 games for the team's Class AAA affiliate.
