TORONTO (Ticker) -- Paul Beeston on Tuesday was appointed the Toronto Blue Jays' chief executive officer on an interim basis.
Beeston assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the baseball club and Rogers Centre with the support of outgoing team president and CEO, Paul Godfrey.
"I have a great deal of respect for the Rogers organization and when I was asked to step in, I couldn't say no," Beeston said. "I look forward to this assignment, even though it's short term."
"No one, as we'd all agree, could be better qualified for this position," Rogers Media president and CEO Tony Viner said. "Ted Rogers is thrilled with this news and many others, including Paul Godfrey, enthusiastically endorse this choice. I wish this arrangement could be permanent, but I'll work with Paul Beeston to find in time a suitable replacement."
Beeston has held numerous positions with the Blue Jays since being hired in 1976. From 1997 until 2002, he was president and COO of Major League Baseball.
