Umpire Cousins forced to leave ALCS Game Six

Oct 19, 2008 - 1:40 AM ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) -- Home plate umpire Derryl Cousins was forced to leave Game Six of the American League Championship Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox after the third inning due to injury.

Cousins took a foul ball to the face mask in the top of the third off the bat of Jason Varitek, but stayed on through the bottom of the frame.

Crew chief Tim McClelland took over behind the plate after a lengthy delay.

With the umpiring crew cut down from six to five members, the left-field line was left open.
