Marlins add Conine to front office

Dec 8, 2008 - 10:19 PM LAS VEGAS (Ticker) -- The Florida Marlins on Monday named Jeff Conine a special assistant to the president.

Conine, who signed a contract with the team prior to the 2008 season to retire as a Marlin, joins Hall of Famer Tony Perez and Andre Dawson as the team's special assistants to the president.

"Jeff has been and will continue to be a tremendous resource for the Marlins," Marlins president David Samson said. "His knowledge of the game and his commitment to the community will benefit the organization and our fans, as he is one of the most beloved and respected players to ever wear the Marlins uniform."

Conine was a member of both Marlins World Series championships during two separate stints with the club.

"I have always considered myself a Florida Marlin and I am very excited to join the Marlins in this role," Conine said. "I am thankful that the team has asked me to stay very involved and I look forward to assisting the organization both on and off the field."

Over his 17-year career, Conine appeared in 2,024 games, batting .285 with 214 home runs and 1,071 RBI.
