Dodgers agree with 3B Blake

Dec 10, 2008 - 2:15 AM LAS VEGAS (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers retained the services of Casey Blake on Tuesday, agreeing to terms with the third baseman on a three-year contract with a team option for 2012.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the Los Angeles Daily News is reporting the deal is worth approximately $17 million.

Acquired from the Cleveland Indians on July 26, Blake hit .251 with 10 home runs and 23 RBI in 58 games, helping the Dodgers win the National League West. He made 56 starts at third base and posted a .985 fielding percentage, the best mark in the NL among those at his position during his tenure with Los Angeles.

In the postseason, Blake batted .267 with one blast and four RBI in eight contests.

"We are excited to bring back a player whose performance on the field and leadership off the field contributed so much to our division championship this year," Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said. "Our club changed when Casey arrived, and we are thrilled that he wants to continue his career with the Dodgers."

Blake, 35, is a career .264 hitter with 128 homers and 447 RBI in 917 games with Toronto, Minnesota, Baltimore, Cleveland and Los Angeles.
