Cashman pays Sabathia visit in California
Dec 10, 2008 - 8:48 AM LAS VEGAS (Ticker) -- New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman left "Sin City" and the Winter Meetings on Tuesday for California and a meeting with prized free agent CC Sabathia. The meeting between Cashman and Sabathia is the third this week as the Yankees continue to court the big lefthander in an attempt to sign him to a six-year contract worth $140 million.
The first meeting took place on Sunday, when the Yankees brought along manager Joe Girardi and Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson.
Cashman's flight to San Francisco came on a day of reports and rumors, including one erroneous one out of San Jose that had Sabathia turning down the Yankees' offer. That quickly was squashed.
It also was reported by FoxSports.com that the San Francisco Giants plan on meeting with Sabathia this weekend.
No one has shouted yet.
