Diamondbacks sign C Snyder to three-year extension
Dec 31, 2008 - 1:33 AM PHOENIX (Ticker) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday signed catcher Chris Snyder to a three-year contract extension. The Diamondbacks also hold a $6.75 million club option for 2012.
The 27-year-old Snyder can make a guaranteed $14.25 million and as much as $20.25 million if the option is picked up. He will earn $3 million in 2009 and $4.75 million and $5.75 million in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
According to Snyder, the financial security certainly is comforting.
"It's a big weight off the chest," Snyder told the team's web site.
Snyder, who hit .237 with 16 homers and 64 RBI last season, has improved steadily since hitting .202 in 2005 - his first full season in the majors.
More than anything, though, Snyder is a valuable asset behind the plate - just ask Arizona ace Brandon Webb.
"Having Snydes behind the plate for the next two years will be great," said Webb, who will be his battery mate at least through next season, as the Diamondbacks hold a club option on him for 2010.
The signing of Snyder allows Arizona to buy out two years of his salary arbitration and at least one year of free agency, according to the team's web site.
No one has shouted yet.
