Rangers sign RHP Turnbow to minor league deal
Jan 1, 2009 - 6:41 PM ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) -- The Texas Rangers on Thursday signed pitchers Derrick Turnbow, Casey Daigle and Elizardo Ramirez to minor league contracts.Turnbow, who will turn 31 on January 25, has spent the last four seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers. He was limited to eight games last campaign due to shoulder problems.
An All-Star in 2005 when he notched a career-high 39 saves, Turnbow has not been the same pitcher since. The righthander has gone 8-15 over the last three seasons.
Daigle, 27, pitched in Class AAA Rochester in the Minnesota Twins organization last year, going 1-5 with a 3.78 ERA. The lefthander, who started his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks, is 2-3 with a 6.46 ERA in 20 games in the majors.
Ramirez, 25, was in the Rangers' minor league system last season, when he went 10-7 with a 4.50 ERA for Class AAA Oklahoma. The righthander made one relief appearance with the Rangers.
