Yankees agree to deals with OFs Nady, Cabrera
Jan 21, 2009 - 12:37 AM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New York Yankees avoided arbitration on Tuesday by agreeing to one-year contracts with outfielders Xavier Nady and Melky Cabrera.Financial terms were not disclosed.
The 30-year-old Nady was acquired from Pittsburgh along with lefthander Damaso Marte in a six-player deal on July 26. He combined to hit .305 with 25 home runs and 97 RBI in 148 games last season, collecting 12 homers and 40 RBI with a .268 average in 59 games with New York.
The 2008 campaign was a disappointing one for Cabrera, who hit .249 with eight homers and 37 RBI in 129 games.
Following a 2007 campaign that saw him hit .273 with eight home runs and 73 RBI, the 24-year-old spent time with Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre late in the season after losing his starting position in center field.
