Weeks leaves with sore left wrist after strikeout

May 17, 2009 - 10:24 PM ST. LOUIS(AP) -- Rickie Weeks of the Milwaukee Brewers will meet with a hand specialist in Phoenix after leaving Sunday's game with soreness in his left wrist.

Weeks was hurt striking out in the first inning against the Cardinals. He missed the last two months of the 2006 season after undergoing surgery for a tendon injury to his right wrist. He'll be examined by Dr. Don Sheridan, who performed that operation as well as one on his left thumb in 2005.

Weeks, batting .272 with nine homers and 24 RBIs, said he was injured on his final swing. He said he would not be back in time for Monday night's game in St. Louis.

"I just felt a little pressure, a little tug on it," Weeks said. "It's an injury. I'll get it checked out and see exactly what it is, because I'm not sure right now."

Bill Hall replaced Weeks in the leadoff slot and played third. Craig Counsell moved from third to second to take Weeks' spot. The moves were made after the Brewers batted around against Todd Wellemeyer, taking a 4-0 lead over St. Louis.
