Red Sox activate Matsuzaka off disabled list

May 22, 2009 - 11:18 PM BOSTON(AP) -- The Red Sox have activated right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka from the disabled list and optioned lefty Hunter Jones to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Boston made the move before Friday night's game against the New York Mets in which Matsuzaka started against lefty Johan Santana.

Matsuzaka (0-1) went on the disabled list April 15 with a mild strain of his right shoulder one day after his ERA jumped to 12.79 when he allowed five runs in one inning in a 6-5 loss at Oakland. In his other start this year, he gave up four runs in 5 1-3 innings in a 4-3 loss to Tampa Bay.

In eight relief outings, Jones was 0-0 with an 8.00 ERA.
