Arenas, Boozer named NBA Players of the Week

Dec 18, 2006 - 11:10 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) - Gilbert Arenas delivered the finest performance of the NBA season on Sunday night. He was rewarded by the league one day later.

Arenas and Utah Jazz forward Carlos Boozer on Monday were named NBA Players of the Week for the period ending Sunday.

It was the second consecutive weekly award for Arenas, who captured Eastern Conference honors after averaging 40.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 3.0 steals while leading the Washington Wizards to a 3-0 record this past week.

"It's a great honor to win this award," Arenas said. "My teammates and I are playing at a high level right now. We had three solid victories this week to show for it."

Arenas saved his best for last, scoring a career-high 60 points in Washington's 147-141 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. The 60 points marked the highest-scoring output in the NBA this season and also established a Wizards franchise record.

Boozer also earned his second weekly award this season after leading the Jazz to a 3-1 record this past week. The 6-9 forward averaged 22.8 points and 12.0 rebounds over that stretch.
