Bucks F Villanueva undergoes shoulder surgery

Mar 27, 2007 - 9:51 PM MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Milwaukee Bucks forward Charlie Villanueva underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder Tuesday, the team announced.

The procedure was performed by Dr. David Altchek at the The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

Villanueva's rehabilitation is expected to take four to six months. He should be ready for training camp in October.

"Charlie is a significant part of our team's development and future success," Bucks general manager Larry Harris said. "Today's surgery is the first step in having him healthy for next season. Charlie understands the importance of his rehabilitation during the offseason. We look forward to working with him to have him at strength for training camp in October."

Acquired from Toronto in an offseason trade that included T.J. Ford, Villanueva appeared in just 39 games this season due to the recurring shoulder injury. He was averaging 11.8 points and 5.8 rebounds.

Mired with the second-worst record in the Eastern Conference at 25-44, the Bucks also are without center Andrew Bogut (foot) for the remainder of the season.
