MILLSTONE TOWNSHIP, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith was among four people injured Saturday in a car crash, according to a report Saturday in the Asbury Park Press.

State Police reported that Smith was driving a sport-utility vehicle that collided with a car on Stagecoach Road at about 5:30 p.m., State Police reported.

Sergeant Stephen Jones said Smith was behind the wheel of a GMC Yukon that drove through a stop sign before being "T-boned" by an oncoming car.

Smith, 21, and the passenger on the driver's side both were ejected from the vehicle.

Both were flown by helicopter to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. Jones said the passenger required treatment of serious head injuries.

Smith said the two other passengers in Smith's vehicle were taken to CentraState Hospital in Freehold.

The driver of the Jaguar, a woman, did not sustain serious injury, Jones said.

Smith averaged 4.5 points with the Nuggets this past season - his third in the NBA.

He played scholastically in New Jersey - at Lakewood High School and St. Benedict's Prep.
