NEPTUNE CITY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith was released from Jersey Shore University Medical Center on Tuesday, one day after a passenger in his automobile died following Saturday's accident.
Smith suffered a shoulder injury and numerous abrasions and contusions in the accident that claimed the life of 21-year-old Andre Bell, who died Monday.
According to the New Jersey State Police, Bell was thrown from Smith's 2003 GMC Yukon when Smith drove around a stopped car and through a stop sign.
Smith drove through the intersection and was struck by a westbound Jaguar, driven by Lynn Sinatra, 49, of Millstone, police said. The Yukon overturned, and both Smith and Bell were ejected.
Smith was issued summonses for failure to stop at a stop sign and improper passing.
A third passenger, Carl Marshall of Chicago, was treated for lower back pain and released from CentraState Medical Center in Freehold Township.
