Copeland, Lillard named NBA Rookies of the Month
Apr 19, 2013 - 10:58 PM New York, NY (Sports Network) - New York Knicks forward Chris Copeland and Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard were named Eastern and Western Conference Rookies of the Month, respectively, for games played in April.Copeland averaged 15 points per game, good for fourth among all league rookies. The 6-foot-8 Copeland also registered a career-high 33 points during an April 17 victory versus Atlanta, en route to helping his team finish the month with an 8-2 record.
Lillard, a favorite for the NBA's Rookie of the Year honor, received his sixth consecutive Western Conference Rookie of the Month award. He led all rookies in scoring (19.0 ppg), assists (6.2 apg), made field goals (61) and made three-pointers (19) for the month of April.
Lillard also broke the NBA rookie record for three-pointers made in a season with 185, topping Golden State's Stephen Curry (2009-10), who set the previous mark with 166. The Weber State product also became just the third rookie in NBA history to record at least 1,500 points and 500 assists, joining Oscar Robertson and Allen Iverson.
Detroit's Andre Drummond and New Orleans' Anthony Davis were also nominated for the award.
