Pacers' Hibbert hit with $75K fine

Jun 2, 2013 - 11:06 PM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert was fined $75,000 by the NBA for his postgame press conference rant following his team's win over the Miami Heat in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals on Saturday.

Hibbert ended a response to a question with "no homo" when asked about his defense on LeBron James and later cursed when asked why he finished so low in the Defensive Player of the Year award voting.

"Y'all mother(expletive) don't watch us play throughout the year, to tell you the truth. That's fine. I'm going to be real with you. And I don't care if I get fined. You know what, we play, we're not on TV all the time. Reporters are the ones that are voting. And it is what it is. If I don't make it, that's fine. I'm still going to do what I have to do," Hibbert said Saturday.

Hibbert, who had 24 points and 11 boards in Saturday's game, issued an apology on Sunday, but NBA commissioner David Stern still handed down the fine.

"While Roy has issued an apology, which is no doubt sincere, a fine is necessary to reinforce that such offensive comments will not be tolerated by the NBA," Stern said.

The deciding contest of the series is Monday night in Miami.
