Spurs re-sign F-C Oberto

Jul 18, 2007 - 3:37 PM SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Ticker) -- The San Antonio Spurs brought back a key member of its reigning championship squad Wednesday, re-signing center Fabricio Oberto.

Terms were not disclosed.

Oberto, 32, averaged 4.4 points and 4.7 rebounds in 79 games last season - his second with the Spurs. The 6-10 Argentine has appeared in 138 career games with San Antonio over parts of two seasons, averaging 3.3 points and 3.6 rebounds.

Primarily a backup for two-time MVP Tim Duncan, Oberto has been used strategically when the Spurs match up against teams loaded with big players.

This became evident in San Antonio's series victory over the Utah Jazz in the Western Conference finals.

Often matched up against Utah big men Carlos Boozer and Mehmet Okur, Oberto emerged as a legitimate two-way threat in the low post during the physical five-game series, averaging 10.2 points and 7.8 rebounds.
