HOUSTON (Ticker) -- The Houston Rockets look like they will have a crowded frontcourt.
According to a report by the Houston Chronicle on Thursday, the Rockets have agreed in principle to a deal that would keep forward Chuck Hayes with the team.
Terms of the reported contract were not made available. Hayes is expected to be in competition with a host of others for a starting spot with the Rockets.
Hayes, who is expected to sign the deal soon, will compete with Argentine power forward Luis Scola, who was acquired from San Antonio in a deal last month. Houston also drafted burly forward Carl Landry from Purdue in the second round.
Undrafted out of Kentucky in 2005, Hayes spent time in the D-League before joining the Rockets midway through the 2005-06 campaign. He averaged 5.6 points and 6.7 rebounds in 43 contests with Houston last season.
