Pistons' Meeks sidelined with back injury

Oct 14, 2014 - 6:37 PM Auburn Hills, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Detroit Pistons guard Jodie Meeks will be sidelined for about eight weeks because of a stress reaction in his lower back.

Meeks was originally diagnosed with back spasms last week and underwent more tests after discomfort continued. A scan on Monday revealed the severity of the injury.

The Pistons said Meeks will be evaluated on a regular basis and added that doctors believe he will make a full recovery with rest and rehabilitation.

Meeks signed a multi-year deal with Detroit as a free agent on July 14 after averaging a career-best 15.7 points in 77 games for the Los Angeles Lakers last season.

The five-year veteran scored 13 points in Detroit's first preseason game last week. He has career averages of 9.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in 355 NBA games, 194 of which have been starts.
