Durant has surgery on fractured foot

Oct 16, 2014 - 9:12 PM Oklahoma City, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant underwent surgery Thursday to repair a fracture in his right foot, with the reigning NBA MVP to be re-evaluated in six weeks.

Durant told the Thunder on Saturday that he was experiencing discomfort in the foot, and a subsequent examination revealed the All-Star forward had a Jones fracture, which is a broken bone at the base of the small toe.

Both Durant and the team later decided the best course of action was to have the surgery, which was performed by foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte.

The Thunder are hopeful that Durant will be sidelined through only the first month of the upcoming 2014-15 season.

Durant earned his first career MVP award after averaging 32 point, 7.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists while shooting over 50 percent from the field over 81 games last season. The 26-year-old became only the fourth player in league history to win four scoring titles in five years, joining Hall of Famers Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain and George Gervin.
