Magic sign G Nelson to multi-year contract

Nov 1, 2007 - 5:50 AM ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- The Orlando Magic on Wednesday signed guard Jameer Nelson, who is beginning his fourth season with the team, to a multi-year contract.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but sources are reporting that Nelson will receive an estimated $30 million over five years.

The 6-foot Nelson has played in 218 games for the Magic, averaging 11.9 points, 4.0 assists and 2.8 rebounds per contest.

"Jameer is a key part of our foundation," Orlando general manager Otis Smith said. "He is a tremendous leader, both on and off the court, and he will continue to improve as we strive to reach our ultimate goal."

Nelson played in 77 games last season, averaging 13.0 points and 4.3 points as the Magic captured the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a 40-42 record.

"We look forward to watching Jameer develop in a Magic uniform for many years to come," Smith added.

Orlando tips off the 2007-08 season Wednesday night, when it hosts the Milwaukee Bucks.
