Spurs C Duncan exits with knee injury

Dec 3, 2007 - 12:15 AM SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan left Sunday's matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers with a right knee contusion and sprained ankle.

The perennial All-Star got tangled up with Portland's James Jones jockeying for position in the second quarter before falling to the floor and grabbing his knee.

"I didn't get tangled with him," Jones said. "I was just standing up. He slipped."

The 31-year-old Duncan was helped off to the locker room by his teammates and will not return. The former MVP is set to have an MRI on Monday.

"It's more scary than anything else, at least that's what I'm hoping," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. "He wants to see what the pictures say, but he's pretty upbeat. I hope if it is of any consequence, it won't be for very long, but he'll probably miss a little bit of time."
