Bulls trade Rose to NY, Jazz get Hill
Jun 23, 2016 - 12:02 AM Derrick Rose is headed to the Big Apple, while Australian Dante Exum has some new company at the point guard position in Utah after a big day of trades on the eve of the NBA Draft.Chicago sent 2011 NBA MVP to the New York Knicks on Wednesday as the centerpiece of a five-player swap.
"This is an exciting day for New York and our fans," new Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek said.
"Derrick is one of the top point guards in the NBA who is playoff battle-tested. He adds a whole new dynamic to our roster and immediately elevates our backcourt."
Rose along with Justin Holiday and a 2017 second-round pick were shipped to the Knicks for centre Robin Lopez, as well as guards Jerian Grant and Spaniard Jose Calderon.
Rose, 27, has been plagued by knee injuries the last four years, though he did play 66 games last season where he averaged 16.4 points and 4.7 assists - down on his career averages of 19.7 points and 6.2 assists.
The Knicks pulled the trigger on the trade in a bid to upgrade their roster, given they won't have a pick in Thursday's NBA Draft, where the Bulls have the 14th pick.
Rose will join budding Latvian star Kristaps Porzingis and Carmelo Anthony as the headliners for the Knicks, coming off a dismal 32-50 season.
Meanwhile, Exum is expected to come off the bench for the Jazz as he makes his return from a knee reconstruction for the Jazz, with Utah acquiring veteran guard George Hill from Indiana as part of a three-way trade.
Exum, the No.5 pick from the 2014 Draft, did not play a game last season, having ruptured his ACL while playing for Australia last year.
The 20-year-old this week pulled out of playing for the Boomers at the Rio Olympics to continue his rehabilitation.
Hill, 30, averaged 12.1 points and 3.4 assists in 74 regular-season games for the Pacers last season, and is expected to be the starter when the new NBA season open.
Hill went to the Jazz as Atlanta traded former All-Star guard Jeff Teague to Indiana, with the Jazz giving the No.12 pick in Thursday's NBA Draft to Atlanta.
The deal will not be official until July 1 due to salary cap reasons.
