Nuggets F Nene had malignant tumor

Jan 22, 2008 - 11:04 PM DENVER (Ticker) -- Denver Nuggets forward Nene is recovering well from surgery to remove a malignant tumor from his testicle.

The Nuggets released a statement Tuesday indicating that results of a biopsy performed on a tumor found on Nene showed that the cancer was isolated and did not spread.

Nene, a native of Brazil, went under the knife January 14 at Denver Health Medical Center. To ensure he remains cancer-free, Nene will have check-ups every six months for 10 years.

Nene, 25, is expected to miss two months. The 6-11 forward has appeared in 12 games this season for the Nuggets, averaging 6.4 points and 6.4 rebounds. He missed 22 games after undergoing surgery on his left thumb in early November.
