Jazz F Kirilenko leaves game

Mar 4, 2008 - 6:13 AM SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko left Monday's game against the Dallas Mavericks in the first quarter with a right hip injury.

Kirilenko took a pass from point guard Deron Williams under the basket and threw a pump fake that got Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki to leave his feet. On his way down, Nowitzki swatted hard at the ball and, on his follow threw, he grabbed Kirilenko's arm and threw him to the ground.

The foul occurred with 7:04 left in the first quarter. After laying on the court for a few minutes, Kirilenko stayed in the game to make two free throws before leaving for the locker room.

Preliminary X-rays were inconclusive and Kirilenko was carted out of the arena and taken to an area hospital for further testing of the injured hip.

X-rays at the hospital were negative, and Kirilenko returned to the arena but did not return to the game. Kirilenko has a sprained right hip and will be re-evaluated Tuesday. He is listed as day-to-day.

The 6-9 Kirilenko is averaging 11.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game this season.
