Wizards G Arenas back in action

Apr 2, 2008 - 11:42 PM WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Washington Wizards point guard Gilbert Arenas played for the first time in 67 games when he entered Wednesday's contest against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Arenas, 26, who had missed the bulk of the 2007-08 season following surgery on his left knee, checked into the game with 5:18 left in the first quarter to loud ovation from the home crowd. A three-time All-Star, Arenas made a layup with 4:48 left in the period that gave Washington an 18-14 lead.

The 6-4 guard finished the quarter with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting, including two shots from the arc, as the Wizards held a 33-30 advantage.

Arenas underwent surgery on his left knee on November 21 and missed 66 games before returning Wednesday.

Prior to the surgery, Arenas averaged team highs of 22.4 points and 5.9 assists. The sharpshooter averaged 28.5 points per game last season, the third-best total in the NBA.
