Heat F Marion out for season

Apr 3, 2008 - 9:55 PM MIAMI (Ticker) -- Shawn Marion will not be around to help the Miami Heat complete their forgettable season.

Marion will miss the remainder of the Heat's season to receive treatment on his nagging left foot injury.

"I'm done," Marion told reporters after Thursday's practice. "I've been having pain for a while."

Marion has been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis and will undergo OssaTron treatment, a type of non-surgical shockwave therapy also used to treat the surgically repaired knee of Heat superstar Dwyane Wade.

Acquired in the blockbuster trade that sent Shaquille O'Neal to the Phoenix Suns, Marion also has been battling back spasms, missing 11 of Miami's last 12 games.

The Heat have lost 10 of those 12 games and own a league-worst 13-62 record this season. A four-time All-Star, Marion has averaged 14.3 points and 11.2 rebounds in 16 games with the Heat this season.

The 6-7 forward joins a long list of Miami players who will miss the rest of the season, a group that includes Wade, Udonis Haslem, Alonzo Mourning and Dorell Wright.

"We've got to do what we've got to do to get healthy for next season," Marion said. "That's the best thing for us now."
