Snow a candidate for open Bulls' job

May 23, 2008 - 1:24 AM CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Cleveland Cavaliers guard Eric Snow has yet to retire but, if a published report on Thursday proves to be true, he may not have to wait long to delve into his next career.

The Charlotte Observer reported that the Chicago Bulls, who claimed the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft lottery Tuesday, may be willing to roll the dice with their new coach.

The Bulls' job opened after the team fired interim coach Jim Boylan last month and is one of just two coaching vacancies remaining, along with the Phoenix Suns.

Chicago general manager John Paxson said he planned to spread a wide net in filling this job, and hiring Snow with no previous coaching experience would qualify as such. However, it also illustrates how quickly some believe the 13-year veteran can transition from player to coach.

The 35-year-old Snow, who was injured much of this season, has to resolve his contract situation with the Cavaliers. He is owed about $7.3 million next season, according to the Observer.

Speculation is rampant that Snow, who took part in only 22 games this season after missing just one in the past five seasons, will retire at some point this offseason.

While the paper stated that new Charlotte Bobcats coach Larry Brown wants Snow on his staff once his retirement becomes official, Thursday's report suggests that he may have to consider his options.
