Jazz F Millsap has thumb surgery

May 23, 2008 - 6:18 PM SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- Utah Jazz forward Paul Millsap has undergone successful left thumb surgery, the team announced Friday.

The procedure was performed Thursday by Dr. Steven Huish, who repaired torn ligaments in Millsap's thumb.

Millsap, 23, suffered the injury seven days ago during Game Six of Utah's Western Conference semifinal series with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The 6-8 Millsap will be placed in a cast for two weeks before being re-evaluated. The Jazz claim that Millsap will be sidelined up to six weeks.

A 2006 second-round draft selection, Millsap provided valuable depth for the Jazz this past season, averaging 8.1 points and 5.6 rebounds in 82 games.
