Pistons' Wallace fined $25,000

May 29, 2008 - 11:27 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Detroit Pistons forward Rasheed Wallace on Thursday was fined $25,000 for his use of profanity and criticism of officials after Wednesday's 106-102 loss to the Boston Celtics in Game Five of the Eastern Conference finals.

It was just the latest outburst from the outspoken Wallace, who ranted about the rampant flopping in Wednesday's contest as players tried to bait officials into calling fouls.

In a profanity-laced tirade, Wallace specifically called out referees Mike Callahan and Kenny Mauer, saying it "ain't basketball out there."

Ironically, according to a report on ESPN.com earlier Thursday, the NBA pledged to eliminate such play by having "in-game arena observers and video reviewers ... instructed to report instances of theatrical flopping for potential punishment as part of postgame reports on officiating and other matters."

Wallace, who has a penchant for arguing with officials, picked up his sixth technical foul of the postseason on Wednesday for the Pistons, who trail the best-of-seven series, 3-2. Seven infractions leads to a one-game suspension.
