Bucks sign C Bogut to extension

Jul 11, 2008 - 9:01 PM MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Bucks on Friday signed center Andrew Bogut to a multi-year contract extension.

Terms were not disclosed, but the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is reporting the deal is for five years and worth $72.5 million including bonuses.

"Andrew has worked very hard to develop into one of the top young centers in the league," Bucks general manager John Hammond said. "He is a very important part of what we are doing in Milwaukee and we're excited to announce his contract extension."

The first overall pick of the 2005 draft, Bogut had a breakthrough season in 2007-08, averaging 14.4 points and 9.8 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 78 games. The 7-foot, 245-pound Australian has averaged 11.9 points and 8.5 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 226 games with Milwaukee.

"Andrew is a talented and hard-working young player," Milwaukee head coach Scott Skiles said. "I'm happy that the extension is signed for our team and also for Andrew so he can concentrate on playing during the offseason."
