Reports: Hornets sign F Posey
Jul 16, 2008 - 8:09 PM NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- One month after winning his second NBA championship in three years, James Posey apparently is headed to the Big Easy.Posey has agreed to a four-year, $25 million contract to join the New Orleans Hornets, according to a report posted Wednesday by the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Renowned as one of the NBA's premier defensive players, Posey was a key contributor this past season for the reigning champion Boston Celtics, who defeated the Los Angeles Lakers last month in the NBA Finals.
Posey, 31, averaged 7.4 points and 4.4 assists in 74 games this past season for the Celtics. In the playoffs, Posey was used as a defensive stopper against Cleveland's LeBron James and Los Angeles' Kobe Bryant.
A nine-year veteran, Posey also helped the Miami Heat win the 2006 NBA title. The Cleveland native has played 663 games with five different teams, averaging 9.2 points and 4.9 rebounds.
