SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Ticker) -- The San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday re-signed forward-center Kurt Thomas, who was acquired from Seattle on February 20.
Thomas played in 28 games for the Spurs last season, averaging 4.5 points and 4.9 rebounds, then had a key role in the team's run to the Western Conference finals. He saw action in all 17 of the Spurs' playoff contests. contributing 4.1 points and 4.9 rebounds in just under 16 minutes per contest.
Re-signing Thomas became a need for the Spurs after they were unable to lure free agent swingman Corey Maggette, who signed a five-year, $50 million with the Golden State Warriors.
Thomas, who expressed a desire to remain in San Antonio, has played in 817 career games with six teams, averaging 9.7 points and 7.4 rebounds.
