PORTLAND, Oregon (Ticker) - Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy underwent arthroscopic surgery on Thursday to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee.

The All-Star guard, who learned of the injury following an MRI exam on Tuesday, is expected to be sidelined four to eight weeks.

Trail Blazers team physician Dr. Don Roberts performed the surgery at Southwest Washington Regional Surgery Center in Vancouver, Washington.

"We are looking forward to Brandon making a full recovery and expect him to be ready for the start of the regular season," Portland general manager Kevin Pritchard said.

The No. 6 overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2006, Roy has a stellar sophomore campaign for Portland, averaging 19.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.8 assists and earning his first All-Star berth.

The 6-6 guard averaged 16.8 points and was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2006.

Roy's setback will further delay his teaming with Greg Oden, who missed his entire rookie season a year ago due to knee surgery. The Trail Blazers selected the center with the first pick in the 2007 draft.
