Sixers sign C Ratliff
Aug 20, 2008 - 7:16 PM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia 76ers added a veteran big man Wednesday, signing center Theo Ratliff.Terms were not disclosed, but it's believed Ratliff accepted a one-year contract for the veterans' minimum of $1.4 million.
It marks the second stint in Philadelphia for Ratliff, who played with the club from 1997-2001.
"We are fortunate to sign a player of Theo's caliber," Sixers general manager Ed Stefanski said. "He is a consummate professional, both on the court and off, who will provide us with additional depth in the frontcourt while also serving as a mentor to some of our younger players."
A 13-year veteran, the 6-10 Ratliff is one of seven players in NBA history to lead the league in blocks in at least three seasons (2000-01, 2002-03 and 2003-04). He ranks 18th all-time with 1,855 blocks.
Ratliff, 35, split last season with Minnesota and Detroit, playing in a total of 26 games.
