ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- The Orlando Magic on Tuesday exercised guard J.J. Redick's $2.8 million contract option for the 2009-10 season.
Redick, 24, has appeared in 76 contests over his first two season with the Magic, averaging 5.2 points and 1.0 rebounds per game.
"At this point there's no other way to take it than a vote of confidence," Redick told the Orlando Sentinel. "I knew that wasn't a guaranteed year and I felt like this summer that I had to work as hard as possible and earn that fourth year.
"I didn't do a whole lot the first two years to warrant that (extension), so I'm happy I have another year of security and to prove myself to the Magic."
The 6-4, 190-pound Redick was the 11th overall selection in the 2006 draft after a record-setting career at Duke.
Redick, the all-time leading scorer in Duke and Atlantic Coast Conference history with 2,769 points, received numerous honors after his senior season, including the Naismith and John R. Wooden National Player of the Year Awards.
