Pacers trade G-F Williams to Mavericks
Oct 10, 2008 - 9:57 PM INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The Indiana Pacers are continuing to clean house. The Pacers traded swingman Shawne Williams to the Dallas Mavericks on Friday for guard Eddie Jones, a pair of future second-round picks and cash considerations.
"I had a great relationship with Shawne while he was here," Indiana president of basketball operations Larry Bird said. "We are sad to see him go, but we think this will be a great opportunity for him in Dallas."
The 17th overall pick by the Pacers in 2006, Williams averaged 6.7 points over 65 games last season. However, several off-court incidents made the Memphis product expendable.
Before last season, Bird suspended Williams for three games after the player was arrested following a traffic stop. Police said they found a gun and marijuana in Williams' car and linked both to two passengers.
Also, a man wanted for murder was arrested after leaving Williams' home in February. The suspect, Gary Ian Bohannon, was driving Williams' truck when police pulled him over.
Indiana already has undergone significant changes from the start of last season, trading away Jermaine O'Neal, Stephen Jackson and Al Harrington over that stretch.
No one has shouted yet.
