Deron Williams out at least two weeks with sprained ankle
Oct 20, 2008 - 9:34 PM SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- Utah Jazz point guard Deron Williams could be out for two weeks or more after spraining his left ankle during Saturday's 88-80 preseason win over the Chicago Bulls, the team announced Monday. While X-rays on the ankle were negative and revealed no structural or ligament damage, an MRI has revealed a second-degree inversion sprain that may require "a minimum of two weeks" of recovery before Williams can return to the floor.
Williams rolled his ankle in the first quarter after landing on Chicago guard Derrick Rose's foot while taking a 3-pointer. The fourth-year guard fell to the floor in visible pain before being carried off the court.
After resting on the bench for a few moments, Williams was taken to the locker room in a wheelchair. The Jazz open the regular season at home against the Northwest Division rival Denver Nuggets, and it now appears likely that he will miss the game.
